Whitechapel
AM is one of the country's most awarded hospital radio
stations. We won our first award in 1978 when we were called
Metropolitan Hospitals Radio. It was from Capital Radio and was
for the station's broad output of programming at the time.
In 1998 we were named Station Of The Year at the Hospital Radio
Awards. They are annual awards held by the Hospital Broadcasting
Association to celebrate the best in Hospital Radio. At the same
time Thursday night's Alex Grundon was named Presenter of the Year
in London and the South East. He has since won many awards for
the station.
The Hospital Radio Awards 2007 brought more success for Whitechapel AM
members:
Thursday night's Pete Day won Gold
for the Best Speech Package.
He conducted a moving interview about the Bethnal Green Tube
Disaster.
Nabila Pathan is a presenter and
ward visitor on Monday and Friday, and
with WAM4Kids on Saturday. Her enthusiasm was rewarded with
Silver in Newcomer of the Year.
We also had another Newcomer of
the Year. Friday's Lawrie Jordan
won Bronze. Lawrie is another presenter who loves interacting on
the wards.
Whitechapel
AM is a registered charity, number 272766.
